A hybrid that is somewhat popular in Japan, where most of these birds originate. These birds are similar in appearance to a regular Umbrella Cockatoo, but are much smaller, have a shorter crest, and have droopy skin circling their eyes. The name “Panda Cockatoo” likely comes from their larger eye rings, making them look a
A somewhat uncommon hybrid that was first recorded in captivity in 1976, Little Corella x Sulphur-crested Cockatoos have white plumage with a faded yellow-orange lore, a yellow-tipped crest, a gray beak, and a wrinkled patch of skin under each eyes. These birds are usually observed in the wild and have been noted as being somewhat
Sulfin Cockatoos are uncommon white hybrids with pale yellow-orange color over the lores, underwings, undertail, and (sometimes) cheeks. Their medium-length crest feathers are yellowish at the tip with a thicker white base than a typical Sulphur-crested Cockatoos. Though similar to Goffers Cockatoos (Goffin’s x Yellow-crested), Sulfins are larger in size and have less intense color
A smaller hybrid with white plumage marked by a pale yellow lore and cheeks. Their crest is white at the base, revealing small yellow feathers when opened or viewed from the side. Its gray bill is slightly lighter than a pure Yellow-crested Cockatoo’s. These crosses are quite rare among cockatoo hybrids but have been known
The pictured Goffin’s x Umbrella Cockatoo looks like a large Goffin’s with a gray beak and very pale yellow-orange lore. Its disproportionately large crest can unfurl to an Umbrella-like shape – having thick feathers up front and thinner feathers towards the back. These hybrids are very rare.
A hybrid that looks similar to a pure Gang-gang Cockatoo when young, but has a light-colored beak, droopy eye skin, and a faded red lore like a Little Corella. Adult males typically have light pinkish faces, while females likely look the same as juveniles. Their misshapen crests seem to resemble a corella’s but still retain
A very rare hybrid that was first bred in captivity by the Wuppertal Zoo sometime in the early 1980s. Galah x Umbrella Cockatoo crosses usually have a whitish head, light gray wings, orange cheeks, and pale pink patches on the neck and underparts. They are significantly larger than a typical Galah but seemingly retain enough
The first “captive” Galah and Sulphur-crested hybrid was born in 1912 from a liberty pair of cockatoos. The parents were free to fly about the property of R. Cosgrave and chose to nest in one of his walnut trees. Their single chick became the very first cockatoo hybrid bred in captivity, though such birds had
First recorded in a 1950 exhibition, Galah x Pink crosses have become very common cockatoo hybrids in captivity. Adults have lightened pink coloration with silvery gray wings and a medium-sized orange and pink crest. Juveniles, on the other hand, have similar markings obscured by gray on the head, crest, nape, and belly. Depending on the
Galah x Moluccan Cockatoos, although rare, seem to have Galah-like plumage with an overall salmon-colored hue; The pictured bird has a tangerine head, a dark bill, peach-colored nape, and silvery gray tail and wing feathers. While its crest is closed, it appears to have a lighter front and base with a tangerine-colored interior. They are
