This Rose-ringed x Slaty-headed cross is an extremely rare hybrid that, in this case, takes after the Slaty-headed Parent. It has a slightly green-washed gray head, a black ring that thins towards the nape, and a faded red spot on each wing. Its plumage begins as light green below the ring and darkens towards the
An uncommon hybrid that was first recorded by Indian breeder B. Ramanjulu in 1964, Rose-ringed x Moustache Parakeets typically have a mixed silver and green face with a blackish lore and a ring composed of black (leading to the chin) and salmon (encircling the head). While some birds may have a lighter breast, most hybrids
The pictured Rose-ringed x Malabar Parakeets are greenish birds with lightly-scalloped wings, a teal or green face, and a ring mixed with black and spring green. Males have red-orange upper bills and thick rings while females have black or grayish bills and a ring that thins towards the nape. These crosses are very rare and
A hybrid that is likely very common due to the strong visual and behavioral similarities between Derbyan’s Parakeets and Moustache Parakeets. Despite this, these crosses can be identified by the slight suffusion of blue upon a gray face and a mixed dry pinkish-purple breast. Like both parents, they have a strong black “moustache” and lore,
Blue-naped x Rose-ringed Parakeets are green birds with a bluish head, rounded red-orange bill, and faded light green scalloping on the wings. Adult males (pictured) have a faded lime-colored ring around their nape, while females lack this. Hybrids of this variety are very difficult to find due to how rare Blue-naped Parrots are in captivity.
Alexandrine x Rose-ringed Parakeet crosses typically have a reddish bill, bronze wing patches, a disproportional head, and are usually larger than a pure Rose-ring. While accidents are bound to happen, these hybrids are often bred on purpose to transfer certain Rose-ringed Parakeet color mutations into the Alexandrine population. Those that purposely produce such hybrids are
Alexandrine x Derbyan’s Parakeet hybrids are mostly green birds with blue-gray cheeks, a small black “moustache” and lore, a light-colored breast, and thin red wing markings. As the hybrid matures, their colors may shift to become more Derbyan-like. These rare crosses were first recorded by Arizona breeder W. Sheffler in 1951 and are somewhat uncommon
Alexandrine x Moustache Parakeets tend to be very obvious hybrids with a gray head, greenish forehead, a blackish moustache marking, and a salmon-colored ring and chest. The bird’s wings are dark green with a faded red-orange wing spot on either side. Given the strength of the ring, it’s likely that the pictured bird is male;
Red-wing and Superb Parrot hybrids were first bred by the marquess of Tavistock in 1939, who described a young hybrid as such: “In appearance it is much more Barraband than crimson-wing, having all the coloration of a young Barraband – red thighs and pink under-surface to the tail – and no red in the wing
The combination of a King Parrot’s red and a Red-winged Parrot’s green produce a unique piebald-like effect in hybrids, as the two colors have difficulty mixing together. While males are almost entirely covered in these mixed colors, females and juveniles have greener coloration overall. They were first recorded by Mr. J. Frostick in 1910 and
