Gray-green, sometimes known as Olive, is a relatively new mutation in Sun Conures that results in darker, army-green wings with black flight and tail feathers. Like wild-type Sun Conures, young birds naturally have more dark green plumage than adults. The variety is sometimes bred with Red Factor or Pied for more visual diversity.
At least one breeder has successfully hybridized Gray-green Sun Conures with Jenday Conures, hoping to pass the mutation into the latter species’ population. This is made easier by Gray-green’s dominant mode of inheritance, though these hybrid birds will never be fully pure.
