Similar to the Blue variety of this species, Turquoise Maroon-bellied Conures are very rare teal-colored birds that many believe to be hybrids with Green-cheeked Conures; While true in some instances, many Turquoises are completely pure. They are aquamarine with stronger green across the forehead, wings, and rump, silvery ear coverts and collar feathers, and gray tail feathers. Some birds may exhibit several red forehead and/or yellow shoulder feathers, though not all individuals do. Given its apparent recent discovery, Turquoise has not yet been combined with other color mutations like Gray-green or Pale Fallow.
Note that multiple generations of breeding would be necessary to produce Turquoise through hybridization. It is not possible to cross a Turquoise Green-cheeked Conure with a wild-type Maroon-bellied Conure and get birds that show the mutation visually.
