Misty is a rare mutation in Maroon-bellied Conures that visually appears to darken the bird’s plumage to a dry green or olive shade. Individuals with one gene copy, called SF Misties, are nearly identical to the wild form, while birds with two gene copies, called DF Misties, have far more noticeable coloring.
Though similar, DF Misty Maroon-bellied Conures are slightly lighter than Gray-greens of the same species, and have an autosomal incomplete dominant mode of inheritance rather than an autosomal recessive one. However, the relative rarity of both varieties means that they seldom cross paths.
