An incredibly rare variety, Faded Pearly Conures have a 20% reduction in melanin; they are a somewhat paler bluish-green with a lighter cap, bill, and toes compared to wild-types. Alongside the two latter traits, Faded Pearly Conures can be easily identified through the dark red eyes present in very young birds. As they age, their eye color becomes a dark brown or blackish shade similar to the wild form.
Faded was first discovered in 2019 by German breeder Rudi Prinz. Just four years later in 2023, the variety’s population had increased to 10 visuals. Though the variety is autosomal recessive, there’s good reason to believe that the population will only continue to grow.
