Turquoise Green-cheeked Conure

Turquoise is a very common and popular color mutation in Green-cheeked Conures that removes most of the bird’s yellow and red pigment. As a result, Turquoises are mostly blue with higher concentrations of green on the cheeks and shoulders, silver ear and collar feathers, a dark gray cap, and cerulean-blue flight feathers. The tail and belly patch that are red in regular Green-cheeked Conures are gray in Turquoise birds. The bill, eyes, and feet are unaffected.

There can be significant color variation among Turquoise Green-cheeked Conures. While some birds have large amounts of green on the face and wings, others may appear to lack the hue entirely. Some breeders associate bluer color with higher quality ancestry.

Turquoise is regularly combined with Yellow-sided, Cinnamon, and Dilute, producing varieties with many different common names. The most popular combination involving Turquoise is Mooncheek – a variant regularly sold for over $1,000 in the United States.
