Cinnamon Green-cheeked Conure

The Cinnamon Green-cheeked Conure mutation was first discovered in America in the 1980s. It has since become extremely common, being present in both the Monilae and Hypoxantha subspecies. Cinnamons have brownish-green plumage on their wings and cheeks, light blue flight feathers, a red belly and tail, salmon-colored ears, and light gray covering most of the rest. The eyes are reddish in young birds but brown in adults. While similar, Cinnamons can be told apart from Dilute Green-cheeked Conures by their warm-toned feathers and brownish pink bills.

Interestingly, prolonged sun exposure can result in “sun bleaching”, where beige-colored markings appear on the Cinnamon’s wings as a result of UV radiation.

Pineapple Green-cheeked Conures, another very common variety, are produced when a bird expresses both the Cinnamon and Yellow-sided mutations at once. Pineapples are visually similar to Cinnamons but have a fully pink bill & feet, more yellow on the cheeks and abdomen, and a larger red belly patch. Unfortunately, Cinnamon Green-cheeks are often incorrectly sold as Pineapples due to their popularity.

Cinnamon is regularly combined with other color mutations like Turquoise, Dilute, and Yellow-sided, resulting in varieties with many different common names. It’s important to remember that these birds are only combinations of other mutations, not a mutation of their own.
