The Golden Sun Conure is one of Australia’s newest contributions to the world of conure mutations. These birds are predominantly yellow and orange, though some blue and green color may remain on the wings and tail feathers. Young birds are similar to adults, but have a partially clear-colored beak and feet. The mutation shares many similarities with Golden Eastern Rosellas, namely how it replaces melanin with yellow color without the typical blotchiness of a pied mutation. For this reason, the mutation was named “Golden”. Given its recent discovery in 1994 and its recessive mode of inheritance, Golden is currently very rare and only available in Australia.
