High Yellows are Sun Conures that have been selectively bred for more yellow color over time. Additional yellow usually extends across the backside to the primary and secondary coverts, often leaving a significant amount of blue and green on the tail and a small amount on the wings. Young birds are typically as brightly-colored as adult wild-types.
Though genetically unrelated, Pied and High Yellow Sun Conures have many visual similarities that can make proper identification more difficult. However, Pieds are rarer and more expensive than High Yellows, and typically have more yellow/white on their wings, flight feathers, and tail by comparison. The bill and feet are always darkly-colored in High Yellows, while they can sometimes be pink in Pied birds.
